Kayak storage

I need some advice on the best way to store kayaks suspended from a ceiling. I currently have a whitewater boat that I need to store in my garage, but plan to build a wooden sea kayak in the next year that will also need to be stored in the garage. I want to hang the boat from the ceiling to maximize my usable space, which will in turn be used for a workshop. I know the I need to run nylon straps around the hull about 1/3 of the boat length in from each end. Any suggestions on the width of straps, and more importantly the setup for the pulley system and methods to tie off the ropes. I am concerned both with having enough leverage to hoist a boat up as well as safeguarding against having the rope slip from my hands and the boat crashing to the concrete floor from a considerable height. If possible, the boat needs to stay close enough to the ceiling to allow clearance for the garage door to open, or at least for me to walk underneath it (I am 6' tall). I thought I saw something on this BBS in the past on this subject, but I wasn't able to locate it. Thanks in advance for your advice and suggestions.

Steve

P.S. - Is there anyone in the Colorado Springs, CO area that has built a stitch and glue or strip built kayak that I could see and/or possibly test paddle?
