Bean Bag Seats

I recently read an online article about a Cornish paddler who will be attempting a solo, unsupported paddle across the North Atlantic from Newfoundland to Ireland. When asked what he'll be sitting on for three months straight, he said, "A bean bag". Makes sense to me -- it conforms to your bottom yet can give solid support under the thighs, and it's bouyant. After all the discussion on here about NBS (TM), I thought it worth asking -- has anyone here ever tried using a bean bag?? If so, what were the particulars (dimensions, fill type, etc.)? Sounds rather attractive, actually -- inexpensive and easy. Besides, carving a block of minicell is awful messy.
