coaming riser *Pic*

Jay Babina suggests doing the riser with 3 rings of 1/4" plywood, but I opted for this method to simulate the Schade's method. It really wasn't much more work. I cut a whole bunch of blocks of cherry and ash. Some were 3/4" cubes, some with one side at 10 degrees, and some at 25 degrees. I then pieced them together to minimize the gaps in between -- 83 total. Once glued in place with thickened epoxy (and thickened epoxy in between as well) I used a file to shape the ring. Some of the cherry blocks were cut from the edge of the board, and air contact over years darkened it. I thought this would get filed away when I shaped the riser, but it ran deeper than I expected. Some of the blocks are a good deal darker than the others, which you'll see in subsequent pictures...
