I'm currently shopping for fiberglass for a strip-built kayak, and am now trying to understand the differences between two choices for 6 oz glass. Can somebody warn me if I'm making a mistake here?

The following material data is off of CST's www site (http://www.cstsales.com) (You can see the entire table, with some information about the terms at http://www.cstsales.com/fiberglass_cloth_data.htm )

Item oz/yrd Weave Thread-cnt Breaking-Strength(warp,fill) Thickness Finish

G3733X 6.0 Plain 18x18 (150,115) 0.0082 Volan or Silane

G7628X 6.0 Plain 44x32 (250,200)* 0.0068 Silane

*Data for unfinished fabric (greige)

At 25+ yrd quantities, the G7628X is listed at $3.25/yrd (50" width). The corresponding cost of the G3733X cloth is $4.25/yrd (50" also).

I'm tempted by the stonger, thinner (lighter layup?), cheaper G7628X cloth. So is it a mistake to go for the G7628x? It seems like most of of the 'glass I see at other vendors (CLC, Fibreglast) "looks" closer to the 18x18 thread count. Am I likely to have trouble saturating the cloth with the higher thread count? Are the breaking strength numbers misleading since one is for finished cloth and the other is not?

Any help out there??? Thanks. -Don
