George, I noticed that you are an accountant, but saw no mention of a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. From what you have said you did quite a bit of reading on the subject of composits. That is a great way to learn the theory. However, your review of Nick's book lacks the proper engineering evidence as to why the construction methods (Nick's in particular) are not safe. It is so easy to say such things, but far more difficult to back them up. Maybe you kept it simple for the simple folks and you do have an engineering degree. I applaud you for the testing you have performed; a first step on the road to writing a book yourself.

I have read Nick's book, worked with composits for 15+ years and found his book informative. Yes, he could have gone into the detailed aspects of composits, but he would lose the average reader and the average builder would still have the same boat with the same safety facor.

And what is the big deal with a 40# kayak vs a 30# kayak? The weight of interest on the water is the weight of the boat, person and gear together. If the 10# difference is that important, pack lighter and lose some weight.
