Shear seam fitup

Hi all,

I just finished glassing the inside seams of my newest boat and thought I would share a little trick I used to make a difficult spot match up. I got the idea from my old weld fabrication days and found it worked great!

First I can't stress enough, keeping the deck/hull on the form as much as possible. Even after glassing both sides. This time I made some spreaders to stick in either the hull or deck whenever they could not be on the form. I had one spot this time that stuck off the form on the deck and solved that by hot gluing the deck to the form temporarily during glassing the outside. When I did the inside I put a clamp across the area. When all the glass work was done everything matched up great.

I was able to tape the joints with very little difficulty and had one spot that moved a little overnight before glassing, this is what I did.

I took a small piece of plywood cut a slot about 1/4"x 1" in the middle and hot glued it to the low spot. I then drove a wedge through until the joint matched. I'll cut it off with a hot knife tomorrow, and clean up the spot.

Anybody that has a real problem shear seam should be able to fit it up with a bunch of these puppies!
