Hi fellow radial arm saw owners;

As you probably heard me grousing about before, radial arm saws were just not made to rip small things - like rip a 3/4" x 1/4" strip in half. No real means to get a featherboard where it's needed, it just shatters small stock.

I used a simple fix today to do all my needed "mini-ripping" and thought I'd pass it along - - I think of it as converting my radial arm into an upside-down table saw. I took a 16" length of 1x3 and screwed it into the fence, 1/4" above the original table. I then started the saw and slowly lowered it into this 1x3 until it contacted the original table - One featherboard to hold the strip against the fence, slide it under the 1x3 and it cuts cleanly, quitely and safely. Oh yes - Keep the attachment screws away from the blade area!
