Can you use Cloth for covering?

My wife want's something a little different. Thinking about building a S&G and covering the deck with some type of floral hawaiian type cloth a la the swift paddle blades. Just wondering if it would be a pain down the road. and if Polyester, cotton or Nylon would be better.
