Coaming Lip - Help???

With fiberglass applied to Hull & Deck, inside & out, my task has been to create the lip on the coamings of my Guillemot Double. I am using ash for the light wood and redwood to provide a contrast. Beyond the need for more clamps (you can never have enough) I found the redwood very difficult to bend. Should I switch to cherry? I started using yellow wood glue and found it does not adhere well to epoxy/fiberglass. I switched to contact classic and it seems to work better, so well it pulls the wood below off the coaming (yellow glued.) Any suggestions?

BTW: Mike & Tammy Hanks were off to Catalina today to kayak after spending yesterday touring San Diego. The only issue seemed to be the pink skin caused by the 80 degree weather, clear skies and intense sun.

Any assist would be appreciated, Steve in San Diego
