Old cedar might be brittle ??

Hi All;

In a previous thread I just received a warning about buying old cedar boards because cedar may become brittle with age - - Say it ain't so, Joe. I located a local lumber yard that has a bunch of old, nice looking (and it's really 3/4") 1 by S4S cedar in the back recesses of the lot. I know this yard has changed hands over the years, and this is some old stuff left over from the previous owners. Judging by the cobwebs, dust and dirt, this stuff has been there for years.

I've read the archives and see where some fellows buy old cedar telephone poles and what-not and strip their boats from this after ripping it - - I live in Florida, the humidity rarely drops below 50%, more like 80-90% the whole summer - - Could this lumber be a potential nightmare? ANY experiences in this area would be much appreciated.

Best Regards,

Spidey
