Update on first boat & advice needed

Well I put on the first strips this weekend. It's amazing how those flimsy strips firm up when you get them on the forms. I made the end forms out of half inch pine, and cut the bevel off to serve as an internal stem. Made it harder to get the first strips on, but the bevel is firmed up now w/ about 7 strips on each side.

Also ran into the first mistake. To get the strips together tightly, I put a spring clamp on strips #3 & 4 between two of the forms. As you (but not me) might expect, the tension was to great and this caused the strips to attempt to "accordian", kind of like this: \

Didn't notice till the glue was set, and it didn't look like much of a problem till I got more strips on the boat. Can't tell for sure, but it looks like the wood will get pretty thin if i try to plane out the bulge in the middle and eliminate the depression at the connecting strips.

The problem runs for about 18" along one side. Now, being several strips past this point, I'm open to suggestions on how to fix this. Do I bevel the face of a strip and glue it in place to fill out the depression? Wait till I flip the boat and cut off to strips to reach the bad spot?

Thanks in advance for any input.
