Polyurethane Clearcoat

For those of you who were interested I finally received the info on polyurethane clearcoats from PPG.

The product is their DCU 2050 Graffiti Resistant clearcoat. This product would be an extremely durable finish for wood/epoxy construction. It is a high solids, low VOC (volitile organic compound) product that could be applied by any bodyshop. I don't recommend home use of this or any other two component product as they are extremely toxic. (carcinogens, nervous system damage, birth defects, etc.)

It is extremely tough. The surface is so hard that it cannot be polished after 24 hours but is flexible enough that it does not require a flex additive on flexible parts!

Application is two coats with a 10 minute flash between coats. A 15 minute booth purge, and a 50 minute bake at 160 F. Air dry is 24 hours at 70F.

There is much more info in the brochure so I will have to get it scanned and then I can E-mail it to anyone interested.

Most other paint companies will have an equivelent product, ie.- Dupont Imron, but most I know of only use urethane clears. This one is a polyurethane, however, even a urethane clearcoat would be a vast improvement over varnish.

Will let you know when I get the brochure scanned and can sent you a copy if you want. Hope this info has some value. Ian
