This weekend, I tackled my first Glassing experience by Glassing the exterior hull. During wet out of the glass, I definitely preferred using a squeegee for applying the epoxy and only switched to a chip brush at the Bow and Stern where the surface is vertical. What I am not so settled on though is what to use to apply the epoxy for filling the weave. I tried to use a squeegee and although is spread the epoxy quickly, I was not confident of spreading out a uniform thickness of epoxy especially over the "bumps" (cloth edge fraying of 2nd cloth layer) so for the next coat of epoxy I switched to a roller followed by tipping off the bubbles with a foam brush. I worked the saturated roller quickly over the entire kayak before the epoxy in the roller started to gel up (Thanks Ross for that tip!) and that seemed to get me the best results in a very short amount of time. Also, I have a dumb question about using the squeegee to remove the excess epoxy. Is this only done when you initially wet out the cloth? I tried doing this one of the follow on epoxy coats but it did not seem to be effective except to help spread the epoxy coat more evenly.
