Final Epoxy Coat: Roller vs. Squeegee

I've finally made it to the final fill coat on my guillemot. I can't decide whether to use a roller or squeegee, though. I'd like to use the roller b/c it applies more epoxy to fill any inconsistencies better. My problem is when I tried using a roller to give the fiberglass a second coat of epoxy after the initial lay-up, it went on uneven and left tiny little air bubbles. I didn't like that, so I squeegeed it off and reapplied the epoxy with the squeegee. Is there a trick to making the roller apply the epoxy better? Will the mottled surface the roller left eventually smoth on its own as the epoxy cures? Should I just play it conservative and apply a couple coats of epoxy with the squeegee? Thanks for your help in advance. Lew
