Paddles and skegs

And now for a multimedia post.

I tried Nick's posted idea for a fixed skeg on the G17, and 4 ft. 1" x that tapers from 0 to 1" worked great. It was hot-glued on, so I removed it for final dressing, finishing and installation. While it was off the boat I also experimented with a new paddle.

The strongback for the boat was 2 ft. shorter on each end after whacking it up to get the hull off, so recently it morphed into a Greenland paddle. It's a pretty slick little unit, with really low throw weight, and easy to keep up a high cadence. It is just not up to the job of keeping the G straight though, at least without a skeg. Not enough blade, not enough lever arm.

So the Greenland is going in the other boat, and the skeg is going on next weekend.

BYW, I have drawings for a spray skirt and pogies if anyone wants such a thing. Just drop me an email.
