Rudder control cable route

In Nick's book, page 159, there is a picture showing the control cables (ropes..) tied to a single point in front of the track assembly, running to a single point on the track, out through holes in the wings, and back through the housings to the rudder.

With a wide double, I think I should attach the single point at the bottom, no bulkhead available? I might be able to use the deckbeam (Tred Avon).

What keeps the lines from sliding through the wing holes and not turning the rudder? Friction only? And if so, how hard is it to slide the track? Has anyone used this, and comments on control line route?
