Roof racks revisited

There was a thread on this BBS just as I was checking in re roof rack selection that talked primarily to the rack structure as opposed to the kayak/rack interface. (There was a short discussion on building foam covered wedges to support the hull.)

As a new builder, I'm interested in knowing whether a hard chined boat like my CLC North Bay can be carried on either Yakima TLC cradles or the baseline Thule carriers; I have spares, but they don't support these hard chined hulls nearly as well as they support my VCP Pintail or my guest boat, an ancient Sea Lion, since they provide support only at the chines and in two spots on the bottom. Just doesn't look like they will provide the wider, hull-conforming support I'd like to give this new boat. (The new Thule "H2GO" cradles may provide better support because they tend to articulate around the chine better --- but that's just on first look.)

How do old hands with hand made hard chined boats protect their precious cargo?

At this point, look at folding boats
