Hi Myrl,

I realize this reply is a little late but I promised my wife I would build a room for my son downstairs before the furniture she ordered arrived, so I've been under the gun for a week or so and am behind on my BBS reading.

When I put the hull and deck together on the Shearwater Baidarka that I am building I used small wood wedges hot-glued to the deck to force the hull to mate perfectly with the deck. I used a piece of 4mm ply as a spacer when gluing the wedges to the deck and glued them on so the hull was just a little proud, a bit of pressure once the hull and deck were aligned, slightly crushed the tips of the wedges and gave me a perfect fit. I then did mini fillets between the wedges. After these had cured I popped off the wedges, did a quick sand to remove any stubborn glue, did a full fillet and then taped the inside seam. This was another of those steps I expected to be difficult that wasn't.

If you look closely in the pic below you can see the small wedges that I used. I also epoxied a triangular piece of wood in the bow of the deck to make the hull and deck mate properly there too. This may not be needed on your guillimot but it is a tricky area on my baidarka.

Hope you get this info early enough to give you another option.

Ken
