: I used a 2x4 to build a Guillemot. I had no problems at all with it, but I
: think it is important to bring it into your workspace a couple of weeks
: ahead of time and let it sit and dry out, if it shows no sign of warping
: by then, it should be fine. I think an internal strongback of plywood
: would be just as good. Also, take the time to build the stands shown in
: Nick's book, they will support the 2x4 in 4 places and do not get in the
: way at all of you working.
: Avoid particle board like the plague.

this is probably the longest thread ive seen on strong backs. I followed nicks instructions on my guillemont, I used A good straight 2*4 I didnt have any noticeable problems in any direction 8 to 10 Hr set I think that you can over anylize things to death, or you can give it your best effort do alittle tweak here and there and see where the chips fall call it experience. I enjoy building very much but the Ideal is to get the boat in the water not the art mueseum. now Im going to build a spring run and I will follow the directions and build a external strong back and hopefully be in the water at the end may.
bottom line. do what you enjoy, enjoy what you do! Dont sweat the small stuff.
