Bill -- I build in the basement. The garage is uninsulated, so the temperature fluctuates too much to be comfortable.... resembling a freezer in winter and an oven in summer... and is poorly lit to boot. Given that I don't own the house (it comes with my job), I'm not about to make any investments in insulation/lighting to turn the garage into a workspace... especially when I've got plenty of temperature controlled, adequately lit space in the basement! I've used the garage for varnishing, but that's it...When I did that, I had my car out of the garage for a week...hoping it wouldn't hail... and when I put it back in, the little-old-lady across the street knew I was done!
