Loop de'Loop or Hold onto Your Yak!!

Hey Folks :)

Getting close to R2K1 and getting equally close to getting this Walrus finished up.

Looking for some ideas on how to put loops in the end of the Yak for handles and/or hold-downs for the car top ride to Washington. ( From Fresno, Calif. )

Two ideas I had were to drill and fill hole with epoxy, down into the bow and stern stems and then redrill and run a screw/eye down into them. Would work for the car top hold-down, but would be a bit small for a hand hold.

Or to sew cloth ( canvas, folded ) handles into the deck cloth ( canvas ) when attaching it to the deck. Good handles for carrying, but wouldn't trust them with hold down ropes or bungies at 65mph over 2,000 miles of freeway. Big chance they would get ripped off and the canvas covering with them.

Got 3 1/2 weeks so take your time, but hurry every chance ya get.

I'm skinning the deck this evening and possibly painting her in the next few days.

No time to build any sort of racks, so I'm renting a Ford Expedition w/rack to haul it and have already worked out a tie-down method for car topping it. But, the rack on the Expedition is only a 5' spread and this boat is 18 1/2' long, so I will definitely need some tie-downs on the bow and stern.

Thought of sewing a Kayak Bra and using it on the front, but it would be a parachute/air brake on the back, so that is out.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw it out for the group to mull over and see what surfaces. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. :)
