mold release agent for seating hatches

I am ready to make the lip for the hatches to sit on. Nick recommends butchers wax(?), or a mold release wax. Well where I live the smallest mold release wax I can get is ! pound for $18.50. Seems a bit much as I don't really need a pound. Nobody has heard of butchers wax. Is there anything else I can use? parrafin wax,paste wax?
