My "design" is really just the Virginia with recurved stems. I just took the Virginia offsets tweeked the ends and then plotted forms at every 12 inches. The forms near the ends are adjusted to meet the recurved stems. The performance should be virtually identical to a boat built from the offsets published in Durant's book. All you get with my plans is the recurved stems, full-sized patterns and a simple spacing between the forms.
People building from my drawings will probably want to get a copy of Durant's book for more info on the details of construction of the original boats, and probably one of the good books about strip-building canoes such as CanoeCraft.
: Hi Brian - I built an Adirondack guide boat about a year and a half ago. It
: is based on the Virginia, designed in 1905, and detailed in "The
: Adirondack Guide Boat" by Kenneth Durant. The book describes the
: original construction techniques of using spruce stumps to cut ribs, and
: pine planking held on with clinched tacks and screws.
