: I've seen a picture of a beautiful boat made from basswood. I'm looking into
: it for the cost savings versus cedar. I was very impressed with the one I
: saw. Are there any major disadvantages (weight, looks, workability, etc.)
: of basswood that you guys know about. Appreciate the help.
: peteThis is a source for some really nice Basswood strips. They are surplus from a blind manufacturer, and carried by American Science & Surplus. They come in 1" and 2" widths and various short lengths, but they say they are available in 9' lengths. The only problem is that they are only 1/8" thick, though I suppose you could glue two together or use them as inlay. I've gotten some and they really are nice. I haven't priced Basswood, but they seem pretty cheap.
Just type Basswood in the search window.
