Keel tape on Pygmy

I just put on the strip of glass keel tape that gets sacrificed thru scraping on rocks ect. The rest of the weave on the hull is filled but the keel tape is not. Can I just apply epoxy to the keel tape to fill it and feather out the epoxy with a brush. Or do I have to cover the whole hull with another coat of epoxy? I'd hate to add more weight. Thanks for all the advice!!! I'm having a great time building this boat! Maybe I'll build a stripper next winter.
