: One thing that would really improve the process is the ability to hold the
: boat FIRMLY in any position (hull up, down, or tilted). The slings allow
: any orientation, but the boat swings fore and aft whenever you plane or
: scrape. This is annoying. A long bench could work but would limit the
: orientation flexibility. Any ideas?

Hi Bob,

I do much of my construction with the kayak suspended from the ceiling [allows for very convenient height control when stitching].

I control the swing [left/right, back, forth] by adding a reinforced stitch that is formed into a loop on the bottom of the hull. I have a weighted bucket on the floor and I add bungie cords [as many as required to damp the movement to the degree I want] or a length of rope to anchor the hull.

Sanding and planing are done on rigid sawhorses.

Hope this helps.

Hank
