If steam bending the coaming bothers you for some reason, you can slice oak or ash thin and easlily bend three or four lay ers dry. then epoxy them together using spring clamps. You can make a primative bending form out of finish nails driven into a piece of plywood in the shape of the coaming, spaced about 3 inches apart.
I'm curious. Since you had to bend ribs, why does the coaming bother you? the steaming tube is easy, a leeder (gutters and leeders) at $4.50 works great.
