The Australian customer wished not to break up the lines of the deck with any external rigging - we eventually decided upon this arrangement:

a kayak with no deck bungee (obvious) but it does have a perimeter deck line, fore and aft hatches with an internal hatch hold down system similar to Ross's arrangement (by the way, I will henceforth refer to an internal elastics holddown system as a "Leidy Lid" - credit where credit is due), and grab loop holes in the bow and stern in the event the owner should decide to install grab loops.

This photo shows the fore hatch in the open position and if you look closely you can see the perimeter deck line.
