CLC uses software with five station points. For printing, the software then extrapolates out three points between each of these stations and defines the lines shape. It then plots it out as straight lines between each of these points. There is no curvature. It is a simulated curvature of a series of straight lines. Each joint presents a "kink" in trying to stitch the boat together.

To make it worse, CLC has an original stored at the Annapolis Kinko's, where they run off photocopies for CLC to sell, using a wide bed blueprint Xerox photocopier. Xerox will tell you point blank that the machine is incapable of making copies with the precision neccessary to use as templates. The paper feed mechanism is incapable of holding perfectly matched feed rates, especially for distances of 15-20 feet or so. It will also induce skewing on long prints due to inconsistencies it the feeder rollers across the width of the paper, as well the inability of humans to feed the papers into the machine perfectly square. Kinko's employees try to "correct" the skewing by pulling on the master as it goes through the feed system of the photocopier, causing skidding and shifts in alignment.

So at best, you get a series of straight lines to simulate a curve, that is photocopied not to scale, with built in skew from the photocopier, and twisting and stretching because the Kinko's employee trys to "fix" the skewing.

None of which bothers Chris at CLC. He knows about this problem, and as told me he doesn't care. It's what people deserve if they build off templates, according to him.
