Butt Joints - Blocks or Tape ???

Posted By: Greg Hicks

Greeting from Indianapolis; the Merganser is started!! Thanks to all who responed to questions/concerns so far. I'm using lauan (Menard's @ $7/sheet), and with my cutting ability (or lack thereof), I'm gald I did (need to redo rear deck panels).

My questions for today deals with butt joints. Should I use butt blocks on the inside, or tape on both sides. I remember someone, a week or so ago, suggesting tape joints (ala Pygmy style). Not having the Pygmy instructions, can someone explain that method to me. I would prefer not to have the block inside the boat, but are the tape joints just as strong, and what about the raised area caused by the tape on the outside?

Thanks in advance for your help. -- Greg
