Tight seams on a CLC kayak, how can it be done?

I have just begun building the CLC West River 162, my first boat. The edges of hull panels are of course cut at 90 degrees. When the hull panels are stiched together you get a large gap on the outer hull and a tight fit on the inside.
You guys building strip kayaks get nice tight seams on very curvy boats. How do you do it and can I use your method to get tight seams on my plywood boat?
