I'm a mechanical engineer located in Carson City, Nevada. Originally from San Jose, California, my first kayak was one of those boy scout folding boats made from plywood and canvas that I bought at a garage sale for $20 when I was 15. I still remember the feeling of stepping into that boat the first time.
Many years later I took up sailing (on other people's boats) and raced extensively on San Francisco bay, and even cruised to the south pacific.
There's much to like about desert life (very seldom have events rained out, and a glorious lack of bugs), but I really miss the wet stuff. So after lurking here for several years, and helping a friend build two stripper canoes, it's time to get into the shop and build something to get back out on the water with. I've purchased Nick's book, and the plans for the microbootlegger, so it's time to get busy.
