Ross,
This is called a market driven economy isn't it? It doesn't matter what it costs to produce something its value is decided by how much I can soak someone else for it.
This is probably the same reason that the gasoline prices rise by 25% before a long weekend! Better fill up by thursday noon!!
Most of our stuff can be bought from other sources for a lot less, go for it. The only thing you have to buy at a marine store is the epoxy. Check out autobody supply stores too, they have all this stuff cheaper. Drug stores or medical supply outfits have gloves and stir sticks (they call them tongue depressors).
The yogurt containers is a great idea as it reuses a previously discarded item. I ussually keep several at work for the odd time I do fiberglass repairs in the OLD way.
I don't know what the answere to this problem is. I think the only way you can recuperate your losses is to do the same everytime you have a product to sell! Of course this reduces you to something that you already despise! But I guess if someone will buy your kayak for $20,000.00 then they will probably feel they got a good deal. Nobody likes to think they were taken for a ride, or made a bad choice. (Have you noticed that everyone thinks that the best kayak design is the one they have!!!)
The one market that I can't figure out is real estate! This is the epitome of all that is wrong with society.
Yours in Ranting, Ian {:o)
