Hi Rehd, Building the Guillemot Great Auk, I'm using plain maple for some of the accent stripes. (1/4 x 1/2 bead and cove) It is very strong ie: it can take a lot of bending without breaking. However that bend and twisting can require a lot of force to accomplish. Planing and sanding is a breeze. (Also using redwood, fir, weetern red cedar, and a touch of mohagany in this kayak)
