Long Leaf Pine

Im going to see if I can purchase some long leaf pine. Its pretty strong woodand I intend to have a small stockpile of it for the hull of the kayak i intend to build. My question is this...

If I go to lumberyard and ask specificaly for Long Leaf Pine, am I really going to get that, or is all pine just a mish mash of sugar pine, etc. ? I want long leaf exclusively. Is this possible?

How many 1X8's would one buy to have a fair size stockpile for the hull of an 18' kayak?
