Sanding and filling

OK, I have been working on the final filling and sanding of my guillemot prior to glassing. I do a little filling and some more sanding. As I sand the overall boat using a combination of a feathering board and a random orbital sander, other areas open up @ 1/32" or less gaps between strips. My question is; What gaps can I leave to be filled with the resin coat prior to glassing and what needs to be filled? I find that sanding filler after I knock as much off with a plane as possible, tends to cause wavy surfaces. maybe I'm being to picky, but I think it will show in the end.
