: I have completed the hull of my CLC Chessapeake 18 and am considering
: decking it using the strip method. I plan to staple some cheap
: 1/8 inch plywood in place for the shape, cover it with plastic wrap and
: then glue the strips together and staple them thoough the plywood. The
: rest of the deck construction would follow the usual strip building
: sequences. Does this sound feasable? Any one have any other input that
: might help me?: Thanks in advance Gregg in So Cal
I have a friend who has built 2 CLC kayaks with wood strip decks. He edge glues the strips flat, making a big flat piece of wood. He then planes and sands this piece of wood smooth. The deck is then installed onto the hull, with staples, just as you would with the plywood deck. After installing the deck cover it with one layer of fiberglass and varnish it. Good Luck!
