: I want to use epoxy to glue all the strips (hull and deck) on my kayak.
: I'm using bead and cove strips for the hull and square for the deck.
: The epoxy is three systems. I plan to mix small batches and apply with a
: brush. All comments more than welcome.Monty,
Don't do it! I used epoxy to strip up a small section (I used a stripped-up coaming spacer for my last plywood boat)
because I was out of yellow glue one late Sunday evening. The problem arises when it's time to fair the strips. Because
the epoxy is so much harder than the wood, no amount of planing or sanding will result in a fair surface. You just end
up with high spots at the glue joints and valleys where the plane or sander digs into the soft wood. Like Nick said,
carpenter's glue is so much more pleasant to use, so save the nasty epoxy for later. Happy building.Rick Rubio
