You can do it. In fact, a lot of autobody work is done that way. You'll also develop some practice with it each time you manage to get a crease in it put down dry, and have to lift it and re-apply. It's just not fun, and like others, I really question the need for it. Kinda like trying to whittle strips with a jackknife, it can be done, but why on earth would you want to when routers and saws do such a good job?
