Oops. Like I said, I'm a newbie. I'll get it yet.

As for paddle technique, yeah. I saw an old Canadian movie (White Dawn, I think) that showed a guy paddling a traditional kayak with sliding stroke and I thought "What is he doing?" I've also seen sliding strokes used with canoe-like craft in the tropics. Typical Cake arrogance, the first time I saw that I felt sorry for the guy having to use an old board, not realizing it was a real paddle, even if it did look like a well worn 1" x 4".

(I've been trying to convince my girlfriend that spending my time carving Greenland paddles is actually in her benefit because the paddling technique uses the abs so much and won't that be nice? But she's already sick of the kayak, yak, yak...)
