Looking for Suggestions on Epoxy

Submitted byajit onMon, 06/01/2020 - 23:29

I am planning to build my first S&G plywood kayak. I am looking for an advice on Epoxy. What kind of Epoxy will I need and how much quality do I need to buy?

Thank you,

In my experience, you will need about 1.5 gallons of epoxy.

I like System Three Silvertip for a clear finish. It cures very clear.

But if I were going to paint a boat for the final finish, I would use RAKA with the Blush free hardener to save a few dollars.

I hope this helps,

I agree with John, I find Raka with UV inhibitor to be very clear also.  If you want clear it is not just the epoxy, the finish is maybe a bigger issue than the epoxy.  Two part finishes are generally more clear and amber less over time.  I used to use System three as my epoxy and epifanes as my finish.   I  switched to Raka with UV inhibitor and automotive clear coat about 6 years ago and have been very happy with the change.

I spray the clearcoat, that is one reason you really need to make sure to follow the safety instructions.  I really doubt you could brush on a clearcoat it just is not formulated to do that.

Fabulous, article. I have never seen this type of article before. The author describes the structure of the article as well as explain all important points related to the topic.
