Removable masik

Strange request.  I have a Northstar bairdarka and would like to add a removable masik. Something that can be added as I want but not use all the time.

When Linda and I went to Shetland in 2004, we brought along Minicel foam masik material ~2" x 2" x 18", heavy duty Velcro and a small Surform rasp to shape the foam, for use in our rented boats. They had ocean cockpits, so the foam was all we needed and they worked perfectly. If your baidarka has a small cockpit, you should be able to do the same. Make sure that you attach the loop part of the Velcro to the underside of the deck, as it won't snag your clothing when you're not using the masik.

I've seen a Tahe Greenland kayak with a large cockpit where a 'sliding shelf' could be pulled toward the paddler.

Asking at the Greenland paddling forums could give you some ideas??

I've made a little board that fits in at the front of the cockpit for people who want a masik on a keyhole cockpit. You can slip it in after you sit and it doesn't permanently change the boat at all.
