What is the best paddle for my new boat

Submitted byjboyd90 onSun, 02/24/2019 - 16:55

Just picked up this kayak/canoe? I am a experienced kayaker. I picked up this bot for $100 a little while ago. Want to see what I can do with it in terms of multi day trips rather than my smaller kayak. Seems kind of like a hybrid, not sure what style paddle I should go with ex. traditional kayak double or a single canoe paddle. Any input is appreciated. I know its's ugly but I'm starting a family and its all my wife will let me play with right now. I expect to use it on rivers that in places have a nice 3mph current and in others wide w/ little to no current. Please advise, thanks.

John Messinger RIP

Some of you may remember John Messinger he was a prolific poster on the KayakForum.

Sadly he passed away during a kayak race yesterday. Another friend of mine was in the race reported that "He capsized with a mile to go and was face down in the water when we got to him less than a minute later.  Despite efforts of competitors, safety boat, EMT personnel, Life Star, etc. he was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital. Off-Topic: Rudder Design

Submitted bybt50 onSat, 07/21/2018 - 02:37

I broke my under-rudder on my surfski. I made a quick and dirty replacement and thought it was kind of fun to play with the different shapes. I've tried a couple of drastically different shapes and haven't noticed much/any difference (both had a 5/8" (the shaft diameter) + 2 layers of 6oz fg and epoxy thick leading edge). I'm kind of curious if for the next rudder if I have a more streamlined leading edge (moving the shaft to the middle of the rudder) if that would add less drag.

Help

Submitted byMatthew onTue, 07/17/2018 - 14:56

I have volunteered to help a friend that is doing an open water swim race. Each swimmer needs a paddler (where I come in) and each paddler is required to affix a dowel to their boat with the swimmers number on it. So. The question, as I'm sure you have all figured out by now, is; short of drilling a hole through the deck, any ideas how can I attach this pennant to my boat (and still use my spray skirt)?

Thanks!
